About the Artist
Washington, D.C.-born artist Simone Agoussoye creates portraiture at the intersection of realism and reverence. For over a decade, she has explored human identity through paint, glass, and texture—rendering faces as living reflections of spirit, beauty, and strength. Her mixed-media works often incorporate crushed glass, with each fragment becoming a metaphor for resilience and transformation.
Agoussoye earned her degree from the Art Institute of Washington in 2011 and was selected for BET AIR’s Artist in Residence program in 2023. Her work has been exhibited at The Phillips Collection and Arlington Museum of Contemporary Art, among other institutions, and is held in private collections across the United States, the United Kingdom, and beyond. Connect with her at simoneagoussoye.com.
About the Exhibit
Peace in Broken Pieces explores whether we can be changed, fragmented, or broken and still be whole.
Through portraiture, reflective surfaces, and broken and crushed glass, Agoussoye examines heartbreak, identity, vulnerability, self-worth, healing, and becoming. Across the exhibition, glass shifts from a symbol of fracture to reflection and light, asking us to consider wholeness not as a return to who we once were, but as a recognition of who we have become.
